WRONG SAND LEAVES GREYHOUNDS WITH BLISTERSPETERSBOROUGH, U.K. -- The wrong type of sand at the Peterborough, England dog track caused greyhounds to suffer blisters on their paws.A mix-up meant the sand used to fill in gaps and cover bare patches was too gritty. Track managers paid about $20,000 for 530 tons of the right type of sand. Rob Perkins, the stadium's technical director, said, "We're having words with the supplier and we're hoping they will foot the bill for this mix-up." Peterborough RSPCA spokeswoman Alison Joy told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "Different types of sand will affect the greyhounds' injury rate. "They need a good quality surface to get a good grip on, otherwise they could do themselves a lot of damage as they race around the tight corners." |
