ELEPHANT'S ART MAKES MONEYTUCSON, Arizona -- Shaba may not be a big name in the art world -- but she has to be one of the biggest artists.Shaba is a 30-year-old African elephant at the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson. Zoo keepers have taught Shaba to paint. The pachyderm holds a brush with her trunk and splashes bright colors against a white paper canvas. The elephant art is making money. One of the pachyderm paintings sold for 600 dollars at a zoo fund-raiser -- sort of a trunk sale. Even if Shaba creates a bit of a mess, it's no big problem. The paints are watercolors, and zookeepers just hose her down. Courtesy of TomsLake.com |
