TOWN CASHES IN ON ANIMAL POOPGUNNEDAH, Australia -- A country town in Australia has found a novel way of cashing in on koalas — selling their droppings to tourists.Gunnedah, 270 miles northwest of Sydney, calls itself the "Koala Capital of the World" because of a healthy colony of the furry marsupials that call eucalyptus trees home. Now, at 40 pennies a pop — or poop — the town's visitor's center is selling small plastic sheaths holding cards with a koala dropping stuck to them. "We have about 20 koalas living in trees in the town and more in the hills around us," tourist officer Chris Frend said. "We thought we have this wonderful natural resource, why not tap into it. "Actually, we give many of them away because the stuff is not exactly in short supply." |
